Smeg 50’s style fridges make repeat TV performance on The Great British Bake Off
Four Smeg FAB30 50's Style Retro Fridges in Pastel Blue and Pastel Green recently appeared on the new series of Great British Bake Off in January following on from a hugely successful series in the autumn of 2011.
The contest comprised a number of heats during which celebrities competed to be crowned 'Bake Off' Champion in aid of Sports Relief. Only one amateur baker from each heat could proceed through to the final and each heat became increasingly more challenging.
The baking skills of the finalists were tested to the limit as they faced tough Bake Off challenges under the critical eyes of the judges, renowned cookery writer and baker Mary Berry and Master Baker Paul Hollywood.
The winner who was judged to have excelled over the other contestants in the closely fought final, was high profile television presenter and journalist, Indian born Anita Rani. Anita took the title after producing a stunning 3-tiered chocolate and orange cake with chocolate ganache and topped off with a quirky sugarpaste teapot, inspired by the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party of Alice in Wonderland fame.
Anita admitted that completing the ultimate challenge wasn’t exactly a piece of cake, saying ‘I got so stressed, the adrenaline was coursing through my veins. I was physically shaking. I just wanted to bake my cake to perfection.’
