What should I wear to my course?
We advise comfortable clothing and flat, closed-toe, non-slip shoes (no open-toed sandals please). If you have an apron then it’s a good idea to bring it along to protect your clothes, and long hair should be tied back. We advise that cardigans and jumpers should not be worn as loose fibres can spoil your work.
Do I get a certificate at the end?
Yes, at the end of each course you will be given a certificate to verify that you have successfully completed a class in the Squires Kitchen Curriculum.
What do I do about lunch? Will there be a break?
You will have regular breaks for refreshments throughout the day - hot and cold drinks will be available in your classroom. You will also have a 45 minute break for lunch and a light lunch of sandwiches will be provided. You may prefer to bring a packed lunch with you or purchase something locally. There are plenty of good places to eat near Squires Kitchen.
I would rather have a one-on-one class, is this possible?
Yes. We offer individual tuition for sugarcrafters of every level, from bakers wanting to learn about commercial cake decorating to professionals needing an intensive course. The tuition is tailored to student requirements, whether this is brushing up on existing skills, learning new skills or requiring help with a particular cake.
I want to learn something specific, do you do bespoke courses?
Yes we do. Just call our school on 0845 6171812 to discuss what you’re after and we will match you up with a suitable tutor.
How many other students will be in my class?
Class sizes range from 6 to 16 students.
When does the day start and finish?
Classes start at 9.30am or 10.00am and finish at around 4.00pm. Please aim to arrive at least 30 minutes early to allow time to collect any pre-ordered equipment and to find your space ready to start at 9.30am. This is also a good time to get a hot or cold drink from the refreshment area and meet your classmates before your class begins.
Do you do courses for children?
Not at the moment but it’s something we’re planning to do in the future. If you have a group of children and you are interested in booking a day at Squires Kitchen’s School, please call us on 0845 6171812 as we may be able to arrange a bespoke course to cater for your needs.
Where can I stay overnight locally?
There are many hotels and B & Bs close by; we have a list of local accommodation that we know and recommend to students. When booking, please mention that you are coming on a course at Squires Kitchen.
I have an allergy; can I still come on a course?
Please contact us with your specific requirement/circumstances and we will advise you as to how we can best assist.
Does the course fee include materials and equipment?
Squires Kitchen will provide all edible materials for the class and will loan most basic equipment and some specific equipment. Any additional equipment that will be required for the class will be specified on an equipment order form. You may bring your own equipment (if you already have it) or we will be pleased to put an order together for you. All required equipment must be pre-ordered by the date given on the order form. Unless otherwise stated, you will be able to purchase the items in our shop provided they have been reserved beforehand.
Students are entitled to a 10% discount on all products sold in Squires Kitchen’s shop, with the exception of any household appliances we stock. This discount is valid on the day of the course only. Please note that this excludes demonstrations. Students attending courses on a Sunday should note that the shop closes at the earlier time of 4pm and it does not open on Bank Holidays.
